Dr. melissa Bates is an assistant professor and director of the Laboratory of Integrative Pathophysiology and Genetics in HHP. Dr. Bates is originally from the Inland Empire Region of Southern California, east of Los Angeles. She graduated from the University of California at Riverside and began working at the University of Iowa in the fall of 2014.

The Bates Laboratory focuses on developing new strategies to prevent and treat diseases while considering their environmental and genetic causes.
