Those admitted to the UI-LSAMP Research Internship program will receive:
- Funding support
- Summer Program:
- A $3,000 stipend will be provided for supervised research being conducted on campus with a research faculty from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Public Health, the College of Medicine, or the College of Pharmacy for a minimum of 20 hours/week of work. Must be accepted into the Iowa Sciences Academy Summer Program.
- Academic Year:
- A $1,500 stipend will be provided each fall and spring semester while the Intern is conducting research for 5-7 hours per week.
- Summer Program:
- Didactic Coursework — Interns will be invited (and encouraged) to participate in didactic coursework offered by the Iowa Sciences Academy in the Fall and Spring semesters throughout their career at the University of Iowa.
- Fall semester:
- BIOL:1808 - Ways of Knowing Science
- ISA1040: Exploring Research (some semesters)
- ISA:1041: Entering Research (some semesters)
- ISA:3040: Critical Analysis of Primary Literature
- Spring semester:
- ISA:2041: Career Exploration and Specification
- ISA:3041: Pathways to Post-Undergrad Education
- Interns will also have opportunities to participate in ISA activities outside of class.
- Fall semester:
- Career Counseling — Interns will have access to a career counseling psychology student to confidentially discuss their aspirations and any issues/concerns related to the matriculation through the UI.
- Mentoring from UI scientific colleagues — Interns will have opportunities of one-to-one mentoring with professors, graduate students, and peers.
- Preparation for Ph.D. education and/or career opportunities — Interns will have access to UI-LSAMP IINSPIRE and STEM conferences, events, and workshops.
